May 23, 2001 Toldo: "If I leave, then my first port of call would be Barcelona" Barcelona are negotiating with Fiorentina in a bid to bring goalkeeper Francesco Toldo to the Nou Camp in the close season. Representatives from the Catalan club met with Toldo at the weekend, according to reports in Italian daily, "Gazzetta dello Sport" with the hope of coaxing the goalkeeper into moving to Spain next season. Barca are ready to splash out £20m ($US 30m) for the Italian international, who was the star of last year's Euro 2000 tournament. Toldo stands to earn a £2m salary ($US 3m) if the deal goes ahead. The goalkeeper said recently that if he leaves Fiore then his first port of call would be Barcelona. Fiorentina director Giovanni Galli has said that Toldo is likely to move on to look for a new challenge."Barca are one of the most important clubs in the world and Toldo is a player who is always looking for new experiences and in Barcelona he will be able to have them," Galli declared.
