Toldo under friendly fire! Fiorentina's Francesco Toldo still believes he can claim Italy's No 1 jersey at the Europeans finals from his friend and rival Gianluigi Buffon of Parma. Capped seven times by Italy, Toldo has been considered by many as having been the outstanding goalkeeper in Serie A this season. But he is also expected by most observers to start the Euro 2000 campaign in the role of No2. Toldo, however, said: "I don't think Zoff has taken a definitive decision. I still hope to be the first choice at Euro 2000 but if Zoff picks Buffon, then I'll accept the role of 12th man with no problems." He refuted scepticism about Italy's prospects, saying: "Italy will do well at Euro 2000 and you know why? This time we start off without too much pressure unlike in 1996 where we were among the favourites." As for his own future, Toldo confirmed he may yet be leaving Fiorentina this summer. He said: "If they don't keep a promise they made to me by June 6, then I'll ask to leave. I don't where to - but I'll ask to leave."
