July 06, 2000 Hero Toldo gets double-your-money deal (Onefootball) -- Fiorentina's Italian international goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has signed a one year extension to his contract which will tie him to the club until 2005. The goalkeeper agreed the new deal after a brief meeting with club president Vittorio Cechi Gori. Under the terms of the agreement, his salary virtually doubled, from 600,000 a season to 1.1 million. Toldo became Italy's regular keeper in Euro 2000 after the first choice, Gianluigi Buffon of Parma, broke a finger in his country's 1-0 friendly defeat to Norway, shortly before the tournament began. Although many will blame him for allowing Sylvain Wiltord's last minute equaliser under his body in the final, Toldo proved himself one of the best goalkeepers in Europe during the tournament, and his save from Ronald de Boer's penalty in the semi against Holland will live long in the memory.
