May 26th, 2000 Toldo demands urgent talks By Nic Evans Francesco Toldo, the Fiorentina goalkeeper has warned his club that unless they start negotiating with him over a new deal then he could change his mind again and rethink his future. Speaking from the headquarters of the Italian national team as they continue their Euro 2000 preparations, Toldo said: "They should contact me as soon as possible. They must hurry and do something. Otherwise the choice about my future could change again." Toldo agreed to stay with the Florence based club recently despite receiving offers from a plethora of Italian and other European clubs. The star keeper revealed that he had been persuaded by a speech with club President Vittorio Cecchi Gori who assured him that he would get an improved contract. The player continued: "I hope to stay, but I repeat, me and Fiorentina should meet soon. There were a lot of talks and promises, but at the moment nothing has been signed yet. So this is my position. We agree and sign something in the next few days, or the situation will be the same we had three, four weeks ago." Roma, Lazio and Manchester United have all been strongly linked with the highly-talented custodian, however with the sale of Gabriel Batistuta to Roma it is unlikely that Fiorentina would allow another star to leave.
