June 6th, 2000 Toldo "I'll learn to be perfect" by Alex Cortese The injury to Gianluigi Buffon in the friendly match against Norway last Saturday, will give space to Francesco Toldo, Fiorentina's goalie. No doubt, he will be the number 1 of Italy at the coming Euro 2000 tournament, despite he probably will keep the '12' on his shirt. And the feeling of the goalkeeper are a mix of joy and disappointment "That's a strange moment, I cannot be too enthusiast for respect to Gianluigi Buffon. In fact I'm really sorry for the injured he got. But obviously I cannot deny to be happy to have this great chance and I'll play for buffon as well!" Toldo explained. "Now I want to learn to be perfect. To make that I'm ready to study all the movements of the opponents, I want to know everything of everyone. And I'll prepare the match in the best possible way! I really hope to not make any fault and I will especially take care of high balls" the goalies added. About the poor results the national team got in last year, Toldo admitted the situation isn't the best one "Surely we are losing too matches, four defeats in last six games. Probably we must to put inside of us a most fighting mentality, and we need humility too! Otherwise we could get in troubles". Finally a poison declaration toward his club "I had surely preferred to go to the European championship without any other thought. At the contrary I have still to solve things with Fiorentina. I have to thank them since if I am here it's a merit of my club as well, but I'm not able to understand what they are waiting for since it just takes five minutes to put on paper what we agreed, and to renew the contract".
